Ideal Infant Activities: Tummy Time

A lot of parents spend quite a bit of time searching for the ideal infant activities that are effective in encouraging and stimulating the development of their baby, most of all in their first several formative years of age. During a baby’s first years, they must receive all different kinds of learning experiences, in order to reach the very best in ultimate growth and development. Developing an entire range of skills may require the need for babies to master infant activities and be exposed in several specific learning situations. But there must be an easy way out of all of this, isn’t there?

Various important infant activities come with an abundance of stimulation, as well as several essential learning experiences. However, since a lot of parents seem to be completely oblivious to the value of infant activities, these infant activities become completely overlooked.

One of the most effective infant activities known to man and used on most developing infant is actually one of the easiest infant activities around: tummy time. Tummy lying is one of the infant activities that can build a baby’s upper body strength, as well as give a baby proper control over their own head. These are two highly important skills that should occur instantaneously and automatically as a baby holds his head up, looks around, and pushes himself up with his own arms. Having upper body strength and proper control over their own head are skills that are extremely important in a baby’s life; they must learn how to master this. But how does this work, exactly?

This is one of the infant activities that produce optimum results. Simply place a mat or a blanket flat on the floor. Then, place your baby onto her tummy on the mat or blanket and scatter several toys all around her that she would want to reach for to play with. It is best to use simply toys that are easy to grab by your child. For very young babies, toys with vivid colors tend the be the most stimulating ones, while older children may prefer highly colorful toys that also make noises, or even basic construction toys.

This is one of the infant activities that do not really have a need for special equipment, though you may want to have a look around for special tummy time mats or blankets. A lot of these mats or blankets even already come with toys appropriate for any child’s ages, like rattles and rings.

Be very wary, though, and ensure that your child does not get bored of lying on her tummy all the time and seeing the same toys scattered around her over and over again. There are several tummy time mats and blankets available that are specifically designed to hold toys on the sides that can be changed up to keep these infant activities interesting for your child.

As with other infant activities, it is naturally essential to keep watch on your child while she lies on her tummy, most of all if there are older children or pets in the household. If your child is lying on a blanket, make sure that it is not capable of trapping your child by tangling around her. If you don’t have any special tummy time mats or blankets, you may use a heavy quilt. An exercise mat is another option; plus, it is cheap, comfortable and relatively safe.

Tummy time is one of the infant activities that do not require a lot of money or high technology. It is fairly simple to place your baby on the floor and let her have fun, while making her exercise and learn at the same time. Tummy time is definitely one of the easiest and best infant activities around today.
